The Thing I Would Have Given an Elbow for When I Started My First Business
Nearly 10 years ago I became an entrepreneur. I was crazy passionate about skin care and I saw a need for the services I specialized in (acne), so I decided to open my own business on passion alone. I knew NOTHING about being entrepreneur and hated technology. I built a website on the Quickbooks platform that came with my accounting software. I loved building that website and curating the descriptions that went with each facial. However, I had no idea that 5 years into being and aesthetician and health coach, I would completely pivot to becoming a content writer, website designer and brand builder.
My career switch-a-roo came when I realized I loved helping the entrepreneur entreprenue (pretty sure I just made up a word) more than I loved giving facials and health consults. I saw a need for websites that were beautiful and functional (meaning you can add a blog post and new service without the help of a developer) without it looking like you created your website on the free platform that came with your accounting software. I also saw a need for a new way of doing this marketing stuff. Marketing should be fun AF. Client avatars are not fun. I saw a need for writing in a way that was real and enjoyable to read. And I saw a lot of entrepreneurs who needed permission to be themselves and do their business their way.
So that’s what I’ve been doing for the past 4.5 years; meeting the needs I had when I started. I truly had no idea how hungry people would be for this type of work when I started.
Through working 1:1 many with multi-passionate people looking to put their work out into the world, I’ve figured out how to build a beautiful website on Squarespace that looks all sorts of professional. I’ve figured out specific ways to write words on your website and social media that create engagement in a way that’s natural and easy. I’ve figured out how to create logos and pick out colors that make people want to look longer and I’ve uncovered that there is more than one way to skin ‘ze marketing kitty.
So I’m taking all of the intel I’ve collected over the past 10 years and I am pouring it all into something I would have given an elbow to have had all of those years ago. A way for you to do what I do with my 1:1 clients in your own time in your own way from your own bed (should you choose) without it costing all the money you haven’t made yet.
While I’m putting the finishing touches on this labor-of-love, if you haven't already scooped up my lil diddy on what elements should be on a homepage, sign up below to grab it. It’s a great way to get started ASAP.
