Marketing: We're Doing it Wrong

Well, hello old friend.

It has been a minute since I’ve popped on ‘ze blog. I’m certain you’ve been waiting with bated breath to hear from my fanny. :) Well, fear not, I’m back and my feathers are all sorts of fluffed.

You see when I was launching my course Heart and Homepage nearly a month ago, I was burnt out. So sizzled. After a year of moving three times, being enrolled in three business development programs, navigating my business growth and being a mama to two tiny humans, marketing my course felt like actual torture. I was creating content from templates, not from that surge of passion that had me embark on creating the damn thing in the first place.

Turns out you have to market your product from the very space you create it or you are going to fall on deaf ears. I’m pretty sure I heard actual crickets.

And like the certified crystal carrying, card reading, sage burning woo woo I’ve become (or have always been), I embraced it all and knew this was all good shit. And it was/ is.

I pulled waaaaay back in my work to create space for that spark to come back. The spark that gets me to write blog posts after my two dragons have had their last book, song, kiss, water, and back-rub for the day instead of scrolling through the ‘gram pretending to watch Ozark (could that show be anymore violent?!). It’s the spark that’s writing this post.

In short, I’m inspired. Because lawd knows if you are not inspired, you will expire. I know because I did.

Here’s what has my panties in a bunch… MY COURSE. I’m running it right now with a group of women that saw through my fried edges and took a chance on me. Omg and am I glad they did. Leading them through this course and witnessing them access the creativity and writing skills they never knew they always had... has me buzzing.

You guys EVERYONE is a designer and writer. I feel like I need to capitalize that entire line.

I totally came to the ah-ha that we have this marketing stuff ALL wrong. As it turns out, it’s not all about what your ideal client wants. It’s actually, about you. Stay with me, I swear I’m not a narcissist.

Think about it… What sets you apart from errbody else who’s doing what you’re doing….


Soooo show that ‘ish.

People are connecting to people (not businesses), so creating a brand on you that showcases you is your ticket to becoming one helluva magic magnet for YOUR people.

Therefore hiring someone to write your words, pick out your colors, fonts, and design your logo is not only expensive, buuuut you’re missing out on the golden egg of marketing by doing so. Don’t even get me started on how empowering it is to know how to do all of this. It might be my proudest accomplishment in life (sorry kids)...

I cannot believe I am a website designer. I hated computers. HATED.

But I’m here to teach you, so you can do what I had to learn the hard way AND I’m here to give you the permission to trust your eyes and heart.

Girrrllll, you’re a designer and a writer if you say so. End. Of. Story.
